Basketball 12U Boys

Our 6th grade boys are playing in the 5th grade rec league again and will be playing a lot of doubleheaders to get extra games in. This is to make up for not playing in some tournaments we had originally been scheduled for.

The January games are all on Tuesdays and have been added to the schedule. The first two games are Jan 6th.

7th grade will practice Friday, Jan 2, from 7-9AM. Any 6th graders who want to join them are welcome.

We go back to our regular schedule next week.

Devon and I discussed ways to get more games for our 6th grade boys against competition closer to their level. Playing in the State Championship tournament in Columbia was doubtful from the beginning because very few programs send a 6th grade team to it.

We think adding four more games in our 5th grade Strafford League plus getting in a weekend tournament at Hollister against teams from small area schools would be our best bet. Before booking a tournament, I would like feedback from anyone who is in favor or opposed to that plan. If you are OK with it but don't care much whether we do it or not, you don't need to respond.

The Hollister tournament dates are 1/24, 2/7, or 2/21 and we would play two or three games on a Saturday against either a 6th grade team or a 5th grade team. They use certified officials and charge admission - $7 for adults, $4 for students.

I have moved Jack and Camden to the 7th grade team since they had only five players. That leaves our 6th grade team with eight players. If we have several kids out and need another player, they are allowed to play with us for that game.

SSC added another game to our schedule Tuesday Dec 16 7:10. I asked them to try to get our 6th and 7th on the same night and they may still change that game to Monday since that is when 7th plays that week. SSC has put in a lot of extra work to allow us to change leagues and I really appreciate their help.

Both 6th and 7th play at the same time Monday so Ronni will coach the 6th grade boys while I coach 7th.

SSC moved us to the 5th grade league and we have two games next Monday. We are called Lighthouse Chargers Navy and the league is "5th Rec/School".

I have asked SSC to move our team to a 5th grade league since we are overmatched playing 6th grade teams. And we are moving Camden and Jack to the 7th grade team. They have only five players and one is out with an injury for a week or two. SSC will try to move us, but it takes a lot of schedule changing and they might not get it done in time for next week's game. The team that beat us by 25 points was 1 - 7 up to that point, and we will be even weaker without the two players who score most of our points. We will get better fast as the kids practice and get more games in, but they are starting out way behind in experience and skills.
